Under certain circumstances, updating to the latest patch for EVE Online can delete your computer's boot.ini file, the one responsible for how your computer boots into Windows.
The latest patch, codenamed Trinity, brings with it a substantial graphical upgrade, but up until 4AM GMT, anyone who installed the patch while running any non-Vista version of Windows on a computer with more than one hard drive ran the risk of ruining their entire Windows installation.
Game|Life contacted EVE developer CCP Games to get some official confirmation on the issue and was told the issue affected only a small number of players, and a new, safe version of the patch is now available for download.
For those who happened to already install the problematic patch, CCP has provided this workaround on EVE's Official Site.
