Dan Nelson, a 31 year old singer from the New York/Long Island area, contacted the Queens-based metal band Anthrax through their MySpace page, asking to audition to be their new lead singer. Nelson and band members sent music to each other, and after the band liked what they heard, they invited Nelson to a jam session. After playing for ten straight hours, he got the gig.
The occasion marks the first time the band has received major media attention since the anthrax-in-the-mail scare of 2001, when the band fielded questions from scores of reporters who sought comment from the band, because their choice of band name has everything to do with mail-based terrorism.
