The promised BioShock update has arrived, complete with new plasmids and extra scenery.

The update gives you the option to turn off the horizontal field of view, which lets you see more of the scenery. This shot from VideoGamer shows you just how much more of Rapture's scenery is exposed to view with the switch.

Many players felt that the Vita Chambers, which function as level checkpoints and resurrect you should you fall to the Splicers, made BioShock far too easy. Not only does the update give you the option to turn the Chambers off, it also adds the Brass Balls Achievement if you make it through the game on Hard without dying.

Bundled in with the update is some free content that adds four new plasmids and gene tonics to your Gatherer's Garden. Conservationists will appreciate EVE Saver and Vending Expert, which lower the amount of EVE used by plasmids and the cost of items in the Vending Machines, respectively.

Those more interested in offense will likely take a shine to Machine Buster, which increases the damage dealt to cameras, bots, and turrets. Personally, I can't wait to try out Sonic Boom, which blasts enemies with a wave of sound, leaving them stunned for a few seconds.

While the new content is much appreciated, it can only do so much to extend the BioShock's lifespan. As marvelous as BioShock is, it's just not the kind of game that lends itself to more than a few playthroughs, especially once you've experienced the harder difficulty levels.

This batch of goodies is probably enough to get you to eke a few more hours out of BioShock, if not actually play it all the way through again. My question is, if Take 2 were to release another handful of plasmids a few months from now, would it be enough to tempt you into picking the game up yet again?
