The front page today has a profile on Brock Davis, who created this amazing self portrait using Halo 3′s Forge tool.
Davis, who has no formal art training, explains each step of the process, from choosing his canvas to selecting just the right items to create the 3d illusion.
What I find particularly amazing–and a wee bit depressing–is how Davis just kind of wings certain aspects of the work, like making the ear by slapping together a "sloppy mass." I can’t so much as draw a circle, but this guy makes a mess and comes up with brilliance.
