You won’t be shooting any home movies yet, but you can at least experience the wonder of video on a mobile device. Drunknbass has posted a proof of concept application which will grab five seconds of video via the iPhone’s camera and then immediately play it back. Right now that’s it: No user interface, no options, just hit the button and watch.
Drunknbass says that he (or she) has managed to get 10 frames-per-second at the full 2MP resolution of the iPhone’s camera, but by shrinking the size to 480 x 320 pixels the frame rate shoots up to around 45 fps. Memory management is the problem right now, and likely the reason Apple has put off adding video capability. Once that’s sorted out, we are promised unlimited recording length and 15-30 fps.
