YouTube Users Invited to Post Responses to CNN/YouTube Presidential Debate

Steve Grove, YouTube’s news and politics editor, is inviting its community of users to post their responses to this week’s CNN/YouTube Republican presidential debate, and to continue the discussion.

The CNN/YouTube debate this week was the most viewed presidential debate for this cycle, with about 4.5 million viewers, according to Nielsen.

It’s an interesting statistic since the last YouTube/CNN debate featuring the Democrats didn’t break any records. Viewership for that debate was lower than it had been for a prior Democratic debate that took place in New Hampshire. When I’d asked CNN’s Washington Bureau Chief David Bohrman about that, he said that the statistic didn’t mean anything. It could have just meant that the CNN/YouTube Democratic debate took place at a more inconvenient viewing time than the one in New Hampshire, he said.

Meanwhile, Grove makes the key point in this recorded message that it’s important for YouTube to be as "transparent" as possible about what took place in St. Petersburg, and that the company is still exploring opportunities to put the medium to work in the political process:
