A Rock Star Guide to the Galaxy with CSS

One of the worst things about being a "Wired celebrity blogger" is that once people know you’re a "Wired celebrity blogger" they’re always trying to get you to write about their band/art/project/human be-in. It’s neat, but also awkward, because more times than not it ends in some painful scene where you have to sit down with said person and say, "Look. I love you, but neo-soul is neither neo nor soul, and I don’t think I can sell a bunch of tech geeks on some warmed-over D’Angelo tracks. Sorry." [OK, this never really happened.] But sometimes, you get a tip to something really sweet, and you’re glad to know about the the new hotness first.

This is one of those times. Well, sorta. The tip about this video came in from one of the creators – a former softball teammate, who I’m pretty sure didn’t even remember that I was in her address book or that I was a "Wired celebrity blogger." Whatever. This video (that one, over there) is still hot because not only is it a "Rock Star Guide to the Galaxy" it’s hosted by Luiza Sá of Cansei de Ser Sexy (CSS) – one of my favorite bands of the last couple years. Or, they were one of my favorite bands until those Apple commercials kind of started ruining them for me. Luckily though, as this video shows, CSS are making a new record, so there will be more CSS to love soon. Moreover, the video gives a local’s view of bitchin’ things and places in São Paulo, Brazil – like where the gay nightlife is, the best spots for shoe polish graffiti and Sá’s grandmother’s place. It’s all quite entertaining – however on this tour towels and the number 42 don’t mean shit.
