mars1.jpgIn a switch-around welcome to those outside the US, the BBC will be offering TV shows for download at the UK iTunes Store. These shows will, as yet, not be available in the US, a reversal of the usual US-centric product rollouts from Apple.

Priced at £1.89 ($3.69 – or as Reuters charmingly says, 1.89 pounds), the episodes are available today. Series' include Doctor Who spin-off Torchwood; Robin Hood; and the splendid retro cop-show Life On Mars.

The BBC are open about the move. Simon Danker, BBC Director of Digital Media, says it's all about the iPod:

We want to give audiences a wide variety of options on how and where to view their favourite BBC shows. With more people now choosing to watch TV shows on their iPods, fans of series such as The Mighty Boosh and The Catherine Tate Show can now enjoy those shows wherever they are.
