YouTube's Live Video Plans Could Allow Quick-and-Dirty Concert Streaming

YouTube co-founder Steve Chen opened up to laconically-voiced Pop17 videoblogger Sarah Meyers at an industry party, unveiling YouTube’s plan to launch live video streaming in 2008.  There are plenty of other live video sites out there, some of which are specifically designed to provide the sort of audio and video quality that improves the live online music experience.

However, none of those have an audience anywhere near as big as YouTube’s.  Live video on YouTube could give bands an easier way to reach more fans worldwide with their live online performances, even if the audio/video quality ends up being lower there.

Meyers: When are you guys going to do live video on YouTube?

Chen: 2008. We’ll do it this year.  Live video is just something that we’ve always wanted to do, we’venever had the resources to do it correctly, but now with Google, wehope to actually do it this year.

(In a way, it’s appropriate that this story was originally broken with a video clip.)
