A lack of light and a second wave of storms hampered the search overnight for a teenager believed to have been swept away by floodwaters in Mesquite.
As North Texas began to recover from Tuesday's severe storms that led to flooded roadways and the evacuation of neighborhoods, rescuers waited for daybreak to assess how to best continue their search for the 14-year-old who had been with a friend when they were carried away by a creek near Interstate 635 and Bruton Road.

Fire officials said the two teenagers were playing shortly before 2 p.m. when they were pulled into the water. One swam to safety, but the other was sucked into a drainage pipe, the friend said.
Mesquite police spokesman Mark Noble said rescuers continued their search overnight from the banks and were expected to resume searching in the water later this morning. He declined to release the name of the teen.
The weather system that crippled local air traffic also sparked flash floods that closed streets and stranded motorists Tuesday. Dallas Love Field reported 4.78 inches of rain for Tuesday, and almost 6 inches fell in downtown Dallas....
