Sony has made a few announcements about this year's lineup of PlayStation 3 games at a press event Tuesday in London. Here are all the most important details from around the web.
- Two first-person, first-party shooters in the same holiday season? No way. Sony finally confirmed that* *Killzone 2 has been bumped back to 2009, leaving Resistance 2 as their marquee shooter for the holiday. Nobody seriously thought this wasn't going to happen, right?
- Kaz Hirai says PlayStation 3's key titles for 2008 are: LittleBigPlanet, Resistance 2, Metal Gear Solid 4, Haze, Motorstorm Pacific Rift, and Buzz trivia.
- Sony's virtual world Home (pictured) won't open to the public until Kaz is happy with it, therefore it won't see release until the "end of the year" at best.
- In a transparently false statement, Sony claims that it has "created" the concept of "social gaming: games where players of all ages socialise through gaming." Debuts more EyeToy games for PlayStation 2, including one that tracks the movements of a sword controller.
- PlayTV, a digital TV tuner accessory for PlayStation 3 that lets you record TV shows, will launch in Europe in September for 100 Euros.
So all in all, it was an event light on news and heavy on shoring up PlayStation 3's fall lineup. The message here seems to be that we won't be seeing any big surprises for this holiday, just the long-overdue release of some key titles. Hopefully E3 in July will bring some news of exciting future projects for PlayStation 3.
