Django logoDjango, one of our favorite open-source web frameworks, has announced the first-ever Django Conference. DjangoCon is scheduled for September 6-7 2008, which will coincide with the arrival of the long-awaited Django 1.0 release.

With DjangoCon on the calendar, a 1.0 release in the works and the recently launched Django Foundation, the little Python framework that could looks poised to make some serious inroads again competitors like Rails.

DjangoCon will happen at Google's Mountain View, California headquarters, which shouldn't be too surprising given that Google uses Python extensively and even employs Guido, Python's creator.

What is surprising is that DjangoCon will be free, which looks pretty good next to the often $1000 fee for similar conferences. If you'd like to help offset the cost, you can make a donation to the Django Foundation.

On the downside, the conference will be limited to around 200 people, so if you'd like to rub shoulders with the best and brightest in the Django community, be sure to check the Django site for more details.
