Geoengineering and its demented cousin, Gesturengineering

(((That's a great coinage, "gesturengineering," for grandiose but silly notions that might buy won't rescue the planet. I'm a science fiction writer and I naturally dote on such schemes, but as the situation worses rapidly I am finding them in bad taste.)))

(((It seems we need a counterpart to the term "gesturengineering"
which would describe the mostly-imaginary earth-crushing threats which might kill us all in theory but are practically impossible. Stuff like...
uhm... threats like Frankfurt Marxist Critical Theory destroying
Western Civilization. I'd suggest "Armageddon-theater," but it's got too many syllables.)))
