Guitar Hero shredders will soon be able to play two of the guitar genius's most widely-loved songs: "Purple Haze" and "The Wind Cries Mary" using a Jimi Hendrix character.
Although the Associated Press reports that no previous version of Guitar Hero has incorporated a likeness of Hendrix, the character Xavier Stone's Guitar Hero III persona (pictured to the right) appears to have been inspired by the deceased legend.

To this day, nobody has approximated Hendrix's virtuosic graspof the instrument, and these songs deserve to be re-popularizedalongside the game's other back catalog gems. The Hendrix estate isnotoriously fractured, with various relatives arguing over who has control of his likeness (he left no will), so we're lucky to have this material included in the game at all.
Guitar Hero World Tour (October27, Activision) will include a Hendrix character, a studio version of "The Wind Cries Mary," and alive version of "Purple Haze" recorded at the SanDiego Sports Arena in in 1969.

She said all he wanted to talk about was the guitar, and thathe couldn't wait for the date to be over so he could go home and play.
(So in a way, he invented the whole gamer thing too, in addition to hisreinvention of the guitar.)
