Vibrating controller patent holder Immersion Corp. has agreed to pay Microsoft nearly $21 million to settle a claim the megacorporation made in 2003, reports Reuters.
In part, that agreement essentially stated that if Immersion were to sue Sony over their use of rumble in the PlayStation 3 and win, Microsoft would earn a cool $20.75 million. As Immersion won $121 million from Sony (thanks to the DualShock 3 controller's rumble functionality), Immersion suddenly owed Microsoft some cash.
As a result of the same 2003 agreement, Immersion will now be admitted into Microsoft's Certified Partner Program, giving the former firm access to the latter's insider know-how and resources in the lucrative console and Windows PC markets.
