Torchwood 3rd Season Ramps Up for BBC1, BBC America

After the Torchwood cast appearance at Comic-Con International (right), the stars that survived the show’s second season  headed back to Wales for production of the third series.

As previously reported, leading man John Barrowman is confirmed to return. And, the Comic-Con panel made it clear that series creator Russell T. Davies will be back to supervise Torchwood’s, week-long, five-episode run on BBC1 as he steps away from his supervisory role on Doctor Who.

BBC America jumped on the Comic-Con buzz to announce it had acquired U.S. rights to air the third series. Just as the Sci Fi Channel aired the fourth season of Doctor Who just weeks after original episodes aired in the United Kingdom, BBC America will hold new Torchwood episodes only briefly before unveiling them to American viewers. The move makes sense, as the adventures of Captain Jack Harkness and company remain BBC America’s all-time highest-rated show.
