Aug 21 2008 : A group of underground fraudsters which had been retailing a professional online fraud toolkit have closed their Internet storefront, according to U.S-based security firm RSA.
The July 2008 edition of RSA’s Online Fraud Report says the fraudsters were forced for financial reasons to stop selling Neosploit, a professional malware infection kit which exploits several system vulnerabilities to infects PC worldwide.
Neosploit is currently the most advanced infection kit available, RSA says. Its reliability, scalability and efficiency have all contributed to its massive growth and adoption amongst online criminals seeking to steal personal information from Internet users’ PCs.
Neosploit inspects a victim’s computer for vulnerabilities and then allows online fraudsters to infect the PC with the malware programs of their choice.
The gang appears to have been the victim of their own success, RSA says. The burden of a rapidly growing customer acquisition rate along with a lack of sustainable revenue caused the fraudsters behind Neosploit to close their storefront.
RSA says the closure was a source of great relief to financial institutions across the globe.
According to RSA, the fraudsters have displayed an “out of business” sign on their Website, warning that they can no longer provide customer support services.
“Unfortunately, supporting our product is no longer possible,” the notice says. “We apologize for any inconvenience, but business is business. The amount of time spent on this project does not justify itself, and the support (of Neosploit) had to end at some point.”
