When Steve Jobs unveiled the fourth-generation iPod nano about a week ago, he only announced two capacity options -- 8GB and 16GB -- but he failed to mention a third option offering 4GB of storage, which appears to only be available in Europe.
AppleInsider stumbled upon a listing for a 4GB iPod nano being sold on the German version of Amazon.com for €129 ($183 USD). Dutch reseller A-Mac also appears to be selling the 4GB players for €119 ($169 USD). Blog OneMoreThing also posted photos of Apple reseller HTR carrying 4GB nanos.
An Apple spokesperson told UK blog Pocket-lint that the company produced a limited supply of 4GB nanos for a few international markets, but "this is not one of our main configurations."
Still, German blog Cyberbloc speculates that the limited supply of 4GB nanos may have resulted from Apple's last-minute decision to ditch the smaller-capacity offering, which could have led to a production error.
All in all, this isn't much of a loss for U.S. customers: Since Apple is emphasizing the nano's video-playing capabilities, I'd imagine most would prefer an 8GB or a 16GB player. Plus, Apple could just be learning from its lesson with iPhone: The original iPhone came in 4GB and 8GB models, and then Apple eventually dropped the 4GB model -- presumably because not many were buying it.
What do you think, Gadget Lab readers? Would you want a 4GB nano?
