Cake Bakes Solar Powered Album

For its sixth studio album, the band Cake has declared independence from problematic energy sources by installing solar panels on the roof of their studio.

The band says it’ll generate enough juice from the panels mounted on its Sacramento, California recording studio to power 100 percent of the recording process. Any extra energy they generate will go back into the grid, like a form of P2P power.

"We hired a company with great experience and competence, Borrego Solar, and they set us up with a way to break away from our dependence on thecity’s energy grid," reads a note on the band’s website. "Working on a new album, we feel satisfaction in thecommon denominator of together embracing the unlimited resource of thesun."

Sample: Cake’s cover of Black Sabbath’s "War Pigs."
