JamStudio joins the growing ranks of the online music creation tools, but it takes a different approach. This free online music app lets anyone compose music without knowing much about music.
Assign each track an instrument, choose arrangements and specify a chord for each measure, and you're up and running. A tempo slider dictates the pace, while a transposer can shift the whole song up or down a few notes. You can create as many sixteen-measure phrases as you want, in either 4/4 or 3/4 time, then sequence them into the order you want.
When you're done, you can share your mix using a simple link. A $10 monthly subscription buys the ability to mix compositions down to MP3 and access extended sound libraries.
Here's a song I made in about ten minutes.
Update: JamLegend sent over one thousand invitations to its beta test for use by Wired.com readers.
