The other day, an American-made Predator spy drone went down in Pakistan. But, strangely, U.S. officials said they didn't know a thing about the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) -- despite the pictures of its wreckage on Pakistani television.
This afternoon, our pal Nathan Hodge asked Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Admiral Michael Mullen about the downed drone. Mullen's response: "It wasn't a U.S. UAV."
So whose drone was it? Predator-maker General Atomics Aeronautical Systems Inc. will only confirm sales of its UAVs to three foreign countries: Turkey, the United Kingdom, and Italy.
All three countries are participating in the International Security Assistance Force that's trying to keep Afghanistan from boiling over. But those aren't the only militaries with Predators. According to a spokesperson, the firm also has "classified sales that we do not discuss."
