TOKYO -- Akihabara seems to be made up of epic fail this week. Jean Snow and I met up today to do some pre-Tokyo Game Show hanging out in Akihabara, and we kept coming across the weirdest things. For example: Japan's game retailers are usually fastidious about getting things perfectly right, so how on Earth did someone think that Donkey Kong 64 goes with the GameCube bongo controllers?
At least it was only 500 yen (about $5).
More examples of epic fail below.
The absurdly overpriced import games store Game Hollywood offered something they were improbably calling a "Jaguar Full Set." For just over one thousand U.S. dollars, you too could own Atari's failed game system, its CD-ROM add-on, and a handful of the most common games on the system, including Myst. Not pictured: The sense of total failure you will feel having dropped 100,000 yen on this stupid thing.
#3: Super Mario World golf shoes. I rest my case.
Also, putting this incredibly awesome GIANT GAME BOY in the Mandarake games section, running Mortal Kombat II, and then smear its beauty with giant signs telling people to neither touch its greatness nor take photos of it. NO TO BOTH, SIRS.
It puts the lotion in the basket.
