*Nobody is taking up arms. That's what is great. It's wondrous.
*People don't even change the way they vote. I can't think of a single
bloodthirsty fanatic who is getting a serious hearing. Except for various bloodthirsty
Moslem fanatics, and none of them are complaining about failing industries
or job loss because they were never into those issues in the first place.
*It make you wonder if the world is getting *too old* to support
utopian fanaticism and uniformed political street violence. I'd hate to be
proven wrong about this – especially by angry guys with jackboots and clubs –
but can a jackbooted, street-stomping fascism seize power in a society
where the median age is in the 40s? How about when most everybody is in
their 50s? You know, a screaming Nuremberg rally of seasoned, gray-haired guys in
relaxed-fit pants. Is that idea plausible?
*Could it be that we just don't go there any more? Not because we're any smarter, but because we lack the brio.

*Maybe we're less eager to destroy the world because it's so obvious that the
world is already imperilled, and we won't have to lift a finger to see it brought
to a state of ruin that would satisfy the most ferocious among us.
*Here's another data-point – retired geezers, *from the British government alone,*
to consume 85% of the nation's gross domestic product. One really has to chuckle
over this.

*I dunno what the solution is here, but I suspect it's got something to do with
living outside what was formerly known as "gross domestic product."
Peaceable, grass-smoking communard hippie geezers, living in slot-together
prefab squelettes and eating out of solar-powered windowboxes.
*And voting Republican. Because they're conservatives.
*Nice Gothic High Tech housing made from wreckage of a superhighway here:
