Australian political flap over YouTube parody

*You'd think that yet another Hitler "Downfall" parody mashup would be no problem these days –
gosh, there are hundreds of the things – but they've become a vernacular video for political score-settling. You put the needle in with this Hitler thing and they'll have your job, "totally unacceptable," "thorough investigation," the whole nine yards.

Second Liberal figure quits over Hitler YouTube clip

UPROAR within the Liberal Party over a YouTube video depicting the federal backbencher Alex Hawke as Adolf Hitler claimed a second staff member's scalp yesterday as the party's state president, Nick Campbell, warned of ''decisive disciplinary action'' against those responsible.

Party officials have launched an urgent investigation to track down perpetrators of the clip, which depicts Mr Hawke as a ranting Hitler berating aides for failing to wipe out the forces of factional rival David Clarke.

Charles Perrottet, a key staffer to Mr Clarke, stood down from his job over the weekend after the Herald revealed that he and Thomas Tudehope had been linked in emails to the video clip.

Mr Tudehope had been the online media adviser to the federal Opposition Leader, Malcolm Turnbull, but resigned on Saturday morning after the revelations.

Mr Clarke, a state upper house MP, leads the party's ultra-conservative wing. He and Mr Hawke, his one-time right-wing ally, have fallen out over control of state Liberal preselections.

Mr Turnbull said in a statement: ''Tom Tudehope maintains he had no involvement in the production or dissemination of the video … He has nonetheless offered his resignation and I have accepted it.''

Mr Turnbull added: ''I have made it clear to my staff for many years that they are not to be involved in so-called factional activities within the party.''

Mr Campbell told the Herald: ''These allegations about a handful of individuals damage the party and this behaviour is totally unacceptable … A thorough investigation is under way and decisive disciplinary action will be taken...
