*Ubicomp newbies are always moaning at me, "When do I get cellphone prompts from my various kitchen white goods?"
*Here you go, then. Wire up the works there, and enjoy yourself for the 15 minutes it takes to realize that random, interrupt-driven connectivity from machines is certainly not where it's at ubi-wise.
*You see how this site is called "community" Pachube and not "bunch of wired 'smart' refrigerators" Pachube? Big hint there.

SMS Alerts come to Pachube
Posted March 11th, 2010 by news@pachubepachube apps sms alert triggers
Receive a Pachube SMS alert anywhere in the world when your electricity use soars, the temperature plummets, your ship moves, your doorbell rings, or whatever you choose! (((I'm setting mine to go off when "Birther paranoia reaches toxic levels" in my immediate vicinity.)))
Use the new Pachube.app, SMS Alert, which takes advantage of Pachube triggers to 'monitor' datastreams and push an SMS to you as necessary.
You can apply Pachube SMS Alert to any public datastream - your own or other people's - apply conditions to it (e.g. change of value; exceeding a certain value; etc.) - and receive an SMS straight to your mobile when that condition is reached.
Use it to warn you of changes in local air quality, rises in humidity/dampness, bird sightings, temperature fluctuations, carbon footprint excesses, rainfall, unusual sound levels, earth tremors, wave height dampening, zombies, (((http://apps.pachube.com/alert/
At the moment consider this app to be in a 'beta test' phase - it is offered for free, and we make no warranties of its fitness for any particular use, (((
