Indian social media and political violence

*Nothing like sitting down at the ol' Indian keyboard and "fighting" some terror.

*41 terror attacks in seven years. "India has, since 2004, lost more lives to terrorist incidents than all of North America, South America, Central America, Europe and Eurasia put together." Pretty nasty:

*However, in reading over this melancholy list, it's hard to believe that anybody in India has been in any way effectively "terrorized" by this. Where's the benefit to the terrorists? I see no evidence of any frightened Indian gestures to appease the various people attacking India. The Indians are not in the least bit intimidated.

* What is the upshot of all this busy terrorist activity against India? I can think of two major effects: India's bete noire, Pakistan, is visibly falling apart. Also, there's a lot of cozy new Indian arms deals with Israel, the one entity on Earth that most drives Moslems crazy.

*Oh, and, thanks to these atrocities, Indians do get plenty of international War-on-Terror sympathy from the rest of us. This allows them to repress Kashmir and do pretty much anything they want in the way of building and wielding an internal-security apparatus. The Indians were doing that stuff anyway, but terrorist activity sped that process up with a bigger budget for the cellphone taps and the spyplanes.

*Also, the Indians can have their atom bombs and we'll forgive that now, because we're all much more fretful about those belt-bombs.

*Moslem Kashmir is not going to secede from India and join Pakistan. There's no way. Anybody who joins the rattling wreckage of Pakistan is crazy. The Indian economy is doing just fine despite, or maybe even because of, these terror attacks. Relatively stable India simply sops up investment that might have gone to the state-failure zones in Sri Lanka, Pakistan or Afghanistan. Indian global soft power is visibly moving from strength to strength. Nobody considers the Indians a failed state because of these terrorist disorders. Quite the contrary.

*There is zero likelihood of any military invasion of India. The Indian Army, Air Force and Navy can crush any regional state rival except for the Chinese. When it come to attacks by foreign invaders, the Indians are more secure than they have ever been in millennia of Indian history.

*Terrorists could blow Indians up at this rate for the next 300 years and do nothing but wreck their own state sponsors. I wonder what comes next. This terror campaign has lost its gloss. It's all hat and no cattle.
