Nanoyou Project

http://www.nanoyou.eu/

*This is some kind of European nanotechnology youth outreach effort, and it's chock-full of design fiction. It's huge. I had no idea this existed. It's quite startling. It's got all kinds of participatory and social-network stuff going on, too. And it's for high school kids.

"In this section, virtual dialogues, card games and role playing introduce you to the different existing views on nanotechnologies (NT) (((oh my))) and inspire your own reflections on NT development, taking into account ethical, legal and social implications. You can discuss your opinion with your classmates and share them with other participants online.

Through this section NANOYOU also invites young adults to participate in a picture contest to identify and portrait how nanotechnologies are becoming part of our lives...."

*And look how many viral videos there are.

*This one, incredibly, is dressed-up as a French gangster movie. It's a design-fiction clip as film noir. Look at the visual sophistication of this thing. And as a final kicker, although it's supposedly about "nanotechnology," it's actually about Augmented Reality. On European trains.

"This film was made in the context of the NANOYOU project. http://www.nanoyou.eu
Scenario: Story of industrial espionage featuring an enigmatic, mysterious mode of transport that discredits banality.

"Technology: Touch screen, augmented reality, creation of antimatter using special effects through a lens, nano-crystals, camera and 3D animation, sensor networks, positioning in existing networks. (((!!)))

"Values: The desire to share the essence of our project in a more or less serious way. Our project is highly technical, to render it credibility without losing interest. This video is a prelude to the release of the project as if it would be an advertisement. (((Right.)))

"Critique: How to succeed to break the routine of our urban life? How to open relations between users sharing the same network (nor: of public transport)? How to make new technologies accessible to all? How to use the thirst for knowledge at all levels of our society? "

*This one is Turinese.

"Nan°art is an art project produced by artists Alessandro Scali and Robin Goode in collaboration with the physics department at the Politecnico di Torino.

"In the artists' words, "to establish a contact with that parallele, invisible and for most of us unknown world means, for art, to discover surprising and powerful technologies and revolutionary ways of expression that promote the development of new asthetic approaches, alternative points of view, different interpretations of the world.

"The collision – or to better say the meeting – of art with nanotechnology brings to the creation of artworks most of the times unaccessible to human eyes, that represents a concrete aesthetic paradox: an invisible visual art."

"In the Nanºart website you will see some images of artworks done at the micro and the nanoscale which have been part of several exhibitions. You can also visit the projects blog or see a video on the creation of one of their artworks."

*So, how did I finally hear about this European project? Through Japan of course...
