During five hours of questioning by an MI5 agent called 'Clare', Mr Chapman said he was asked often about his ex-wife's relationship with a Russian-speaking multi-millionaire Zimbabwe businessman Ken Sharpe.

Anna Chapman, also known as Anya Kushchenko, the 28-year-old was arrested in Manhattan, where she ran a $2 million real estate business

Ms Chapman is said to have moved millions of pounds between Zimbabwe and the UK while living in London, raising questions about whether the cash may have been laundered for the purposes of espionage.

Her father Vasily Kushchenko was a senior Russian diplomat in Zimbabwe and is believed to a former KGB intelligence officer.

Mr Serkov said at one stage during his relationship with Ms Chapman she had gone to live with her parents in Zimbabwe's capital Harare. (((Another boyfriend shows up. Man, social networking is hell on spies. This poor woman, unlike her comrades, couldn't even take on a fake name.)))

He said he had been 15 and she was 14 when they met at a bus stop in Volgograd - where she lived with her grandparents - and invited him to a party the same night.

'She was my first girl, I was her first boy,' he said. 'I loved her very, very much.
'You don't meet people like Anna very often in your life - at least I never met someone equal to her.

'She was and I'm sure remains very clever and unbelievably erudite. She did my English homework for me - her speaking command was superb.'

He went on: 'Anna lived here with her grandparents while her father and mother were abroad. At the time, her father was vice-consul at the Russian embassy in Kenya.

'I never met him but I heard he was in the military. From the age of 15, her parents took her away to school in Moscow and she also lived with them in Zimbabwe.'

Mr Serkov said that it was in April last year he received the email from Ms Chapman that made him believe she had married to obtain a British passport.

They last communicated through a social network site (((of course))) two months ago when he had asked her for advice about buying a Moscow flat.

'She was incredibly kind and ready to help. I read all this nonsense people write about her and can't believe a word. She was the best person I met in my life, I want to stress it.

'Her character was very strong. She was very pushy and always knew the purpose of what she was doing. She was incredibly active and energetic.

'And if to let myself imagine that she did take part in spying scandal - well possibly, it was sort of her style. She was adventurous. (((Yup.)))

'For some reason I do think it was her father who played part in the whole story. As I said I didn't know him at all but I think he was into all those things.

'Otherwise I guess if he wasn't into spying why would he be keeping such low profile now? There would have been some reaction from him by now.'

The Russian media has expressed pride in the glamorous Ms Chapman, dubbing her 'Agent 90-60-90' in recognition of her vital statistics in centimetres.

(((I dunno why, but I suddenly find myself wondering what Monica Lewinsky is up to these days. There are a swarm of other operators in the "illegals ring," and not a one of 'em is getting dogpiled like Anna here. Even the Russians are all over her, pawing at the bikini pics, the stained dress, the thong... Other than marrying this hapless British guy to snag a passport, Anna doesn't seem to have done anything particularly transgressive in a sex-bomb style; she just looks cute. And about a hundred million girls look that cute.)))

One blogger called her 'the spy from Russia with love who finally looks like a girl from a James Bond film'.... (((You ever wonder how Bond afforded all those sports cars on the salary of a civil servant?)))

(((She's good – but she's no Yuki7.)))
