Design Fiction: Roombots

*I've blogged this before, but they've polished up the scheme, and now it's just ridiculously great.

*I truly want to live here, in a suite full of modular Swiss roombots. I don't know why, because one would probably be shaking all over with Ballardian High-Rise horrors in about a week, but come on, somebody would have to try it.

*Be sure to check out the movies of these modular furnitureoids humping around. Imagine them doing that as you sleep. Or try to...

"This project intends to design and control modular robots, called Roombots, to be used as building blocks for furniture that moves, self-assembles, self-reconfigures, and self-repairs. Modular robots are robots made of multiple simple robotic modules that can attach and detach (Wikipedia: Self-Reconfiguring Modular Robotics). Connectors between units allow the creation of arbitrary and changing structures depending on the task to be solved...."
