(((Y'know, I think maybe Dery has touched it to the quick there. It's about ditching that "leading tone." If you're Geoff Manaugh, the "leading tone" just gets in the way. The leading tone was a nervous tic from a time when "past" and "future" could be clearly separated... when you had to apologize for stepping into futurity, instead of recognizing that it's already here and poorly distributed.)))
