Makers as starry-eyed "user-innovators"

*There's not a lot of news here for those who frequent the blog, but I always get interested
when Torrone and Fried get coerced into their Maker-scene celebrity mode.

*Every open-source project has charismatic tribal leaders instead of, you know,
boring employers who pay you to work. When it comes to, like, soldering
electronic components all the time without a salary or any obvious motive,
these two are kinda where that's at.

*In person they're the polar opposite of New York glamour – you want
somebody who hacks New York glamour, that would be Leandra Medine –
but every once in a while somebody empties a wheelbarrow of geek-chic
onto them, and they stand up to that pretty well.
