Dear Friend of M&A,

In 2010, M&A and its public participants completed an unprecedented 7 projects, both in our exhibit courtyard and at locations all over Los Angeles. We want to continue to expand our reach, but we need the help of those who already know and love what we do to keep going.

As M&A nears its 10th Anniversary, we would like to thank all of those builders, patrons, scholars and visitors who have made our work possible. Whether you have enjoyed our unique programming since 2002 or since 2010, please consider becoming our Valentine and joining M&A as a member. Membership to M&A is much more than a monetary donation; it is a call to say "Yes, I am ready to participate!"

We plan to produce many more educational workshops in the coming season, and we want to design them around the core constituency of M&A - its members. These include workshops exploring rammed earth construction, mold making and cast resin, rainwater catchment systems, and dry ice construction with artist Judy Chicago, all discounted for our members. Special tours are also being organized for our members, exploring area studios of practitioners challenging the boundaries of the built environment, manufacturers and suppliers of fascinating materials, and a field trip to a high tech lab at the leading edge of transvergence in the design of our surroundings. We also have lots of new projects for M&A in concept development, including parks and shade structures located around Los Angeles. We believe it is important to make these social and technical research initiatives and we want the participation of the membership. We need to know who is shovel ready, interested, and prepared to help build.

If you are ready to answer our call of "Let's Build Something Beautiful", then please become an official member of M&A.

Since launching our first Membership Drive this past December, we have had a great response - thank you and welcome to our new members! Now is a great time to join M&A and lend your support to a number of exciting projects we have lined up for the 2011 season. Currently, M&A, with our public participants and members, are developing ModJewel for TEDActive 2011 Conference. Doris Sung and Ingalill Wahlroos-Ritter's thermo bimetal canopy Sunny Side-Up will grace our Silver Lake courtyard in Fall 2011. In January 2012, we will be re-envisioning Judy Chicago, Lloyd Hamrol, and Eric Orr's 1968 dry-ice installation Disappearing Environments for the Getty's Pacific Standard Time Festival. Your support will also help to meet a matching grant from the Los Angeles County Arts Commission, which helps to fund our first and only paid employee who is spearheading our expansion. Help us meet our match!

Find more ways you can support M&A here. Nothing says "Be Mine!" more than an official M&A T-shirt - proceeds go to keep our courtyard open and free to everyone!

To get a taste of a Members' events, we are holding a hands-on workshop this Sunday, February 13th from 12-3pm. Come help us develop the Weaire-Phelan Foam for ModJewel, our installation at TEDActive 2011, and get a feel for what M&A has to offer to our family of members.

Let's Build Something Beautiful!

Sincerely Yours this Valentine's Day,
Jenna Didier & Oliver Hess
