Coming to life like a motion comic, the short video depicts an anguished World War I soldier who gets a hideous new lease on life after he goes down in a blaze of chaotic glory.
Snyder (Watchmen, 300) hired Ben Hibon to create Trenches after seeing the Swiss animator’s stellar shadow-puppet sequence in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1. “It made sense to push the visual style in a different direction,” Snyder said in a statement. “Ben’s aesthetic felt like a perfect fit.”
The piece, produced by video network Splastk, takes as its point of departure Snyder’s girl-powered action fantasy, which stars Emily Browning as femme warrior Baby Doll.
The PG-13 Sucker Punch opens March 25.
