"Four major milestones for OMA this Autumn
"12 September 2011 | OMA will see four major works completed before the end of 2011. The office’s first two permanent buildings in the UK, a cancer caring centre in Glasgow and a private bank headquarters in London, are opening against the backdrop of a major exhibition on OMA’s work at the Barbican.
"OMA’s latest educational project in North America, Milstein Hall at Cornell University in New York, will also be occupied in time for the coming academic year.
"OMA / PROGRESS at the Barbican
"The Barbican is organising a landmark presentation of OMA’s work and ideas, the first since Content in Berlin in 2003. Guest curated by Rotor, OMA / PROGRESS offers fresh insight into OMA’s design projects and conceptual work through a wide range of materials, relics, documentation, imagery and models. The exhibition is accompanied by a series of public events, including OMA: Show and Tell: the first ever involving all seven OMA Partners.
"Maggie’s Centre Gartnavel, Glasgow
"The OMA-designed Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centre in Gartnavel will open in early October to provide support to those affected by cancer in Glasgow and Western Scotland. OMA donated their design, and the construction is being funded by the Walk the Walk breast cancer charity.
"New Court Rothschild Bank
"OMA’s new headquarters for NM Rothschild & Sons, located in the City of London, will be completed in December. The new scheme unifies all the bank’s London activities in one building for the first time in decades and opens new views of Christopher Wren’s St Stephen Walbrook church. The building is OMA’s first project in London since the Serpentine Pavilion in 2006.
"Milstein Hall, Cornell University
"OMA’s design for the new Milstein Hall is the first new building in over 100 years at the Cornell University College for Architecture, Art and Planning. The new building unifies the currently disparate facilities and provides much-needed studio space for the top-ranked college. Milstein Hall opened for students in time for the current academic year.
"About OMA
"OMA is a leading international partnership practicing architecture, urbanism, and cultural analysis. Our buildings and masterplans around the world insist on intelligent forms while inventing new possibilities for content and everyday use. Through AMO, our research and design studio, we work in areas beyond architecture that today have an increasing influence on architecture itself: media, politics, renewable energy, technology, publishing, fashion.
