The Philips uWand offers a pleasant compromise between these different types of remotes. An IR camera paired with an accelerometer offer pinpoint precision for selecting onscreen items on your TV set, and also lets you use gestures to swipe through menus.
After a few minutes of usage, the remote felt like second nature. We love that the uWand, and similar products, could open up the possibility for new, more intuitive TV interfaces for the next generation of smart TVs and set top boxes. The remote control is currently available for third party manufacturers to license and is available in a couple of different styles.
