The project's artists, historians and experts in augmented reality will be present to share information and guide you through this innovation project of CCCADI.
Eight artists selected to participate in the development of the project will create site-specific virtual artworks and environments, landmarking the rich history and culture of East Harlem
WHAT:
With the generous support of The Rockefeller Foundation Cultural Innovation Fund, The Caribbean Cultural Center African Diaspora (CCCADI) is set to develop a 2-year mobile augmented reality project called “Mi Querido Barrio” (“My Beloved Neighborhood”). The project is an exhibition with both physical and virtual components, mapping a historic and cultural tour of New York City’s El Barrio community, to foster greater awareness of the cultural history of the area’s long-standing residents. Eight artists selected by the CCCADI and trained in the new technology of augmented reality will be announced on Tuesday, April 9, 2013. Using these new skills, the artists will create site-specific virtual artworks and environments landmarking the rich history and culture of East Harlem/El Barrio.
This is the first major initiative that CCCADI has launched since recently being named the developers of a decommissioned, historic landmark firehouse located at 120 East 125th Street in East Harlem, El Barrio. The $5.5 million renovations in the Center’s new home will begin in 2014 and when open will offer concerts, gallery tours, workshops, performances, conferences, art exhibits, seminars, spiritual gatherings and artist’s residencies.
