*Who wouldn't attend a Colombian design-fiction event held in an "Orquideorama"?
"Fractal’13, the fifth version of a festival for imaging the future (created in Medellín, Colombia) will be held this May 18 at the Medellín’s Botanical Gardens Orquideorama.
" “What if…?” is the theme of this year’s event; a question the organizers asked when they were reinventing the format. What if there was a space for creating collective stories about the future? What if the audience contributes the content and the speakers asked the questions? What if there were radical interdisciplinary products in the city?
"This leads to “Fractal’13: What if”, a free admission festival where participants, instead of passively listening a speech, will build collective design fictions guided by the following guests:
Johanna Blakley (entertainment and media researcher, USA)
Keiichi Matsuda (artist, architect and filmmaker, JAPAN)
Paul Graham Raven (foresight consultant and writer, UK)
Reshma Shetty (DNA hacker, USA)
"The design fictions will be created and illustrated live, based on three what if questions:
"1) What if people’s virtual profile were visible around their bodies?
"2) What if making clothes were similar to making software?
"3) What if bacteria allowed us to survive in Mars?
"Also, there will be workspaces for participants interested in creating alternative versions of the future around the event’s conversations.
"The collective design fictions and the alternative versions will be posted in the Memories for the Future project, an online publication at www.encuentrofractal.com "
