BIG's design for Givskud Zootopia project in Denmark is an attempt to totally reimagine the zoo experience. Here you see a circular, piazza-like entrance that leads to three different safari-style regions.

Instead of keeping animals cooped up in cages, they roam (relatively) free. Humans are kept behind hidden, but protective barriers, like this concealed moat, which uses depth of water and underwater poles to keep animals from venturing too close to humans.

Visitors will make their way through the three park regions (America, Africa and Asia) using a variety of transportation. Here you see mirrored cable car-like pods rising above bears' heads in the America region.

In Africa, visitors will use pedal-powered pods to observe giraffes.

Outside of the main entrance, the plan removes all forms of human architecture, instead disguising structures (like stables) as piles of logs and rice fields.
