PowerA
DualShock 4 Charging Station
If you own a PS4, then you know just how insanely frequently the power-starved DualShock 4 controllers need a recharge. Owning two controllers is a must, so you can hot-swap them when the battery dies. This charging cradle is a reliable way to keep a controller topped up and ready to go at a moment's notice. We've used it for years. Despite how cheap it looks and feels, it's held up. We've tested a few other chargers, but the spring mechanism in the PowerA model works easier than any model we've tried.
PDP
PS4 Bluetooth Remote
There's no easy way to say this, but PDP's older PS4 remote was awful. It was bulky, had way too many buttons, and none of them are in the places you'll wish they were. Thankfully, this new remote looks far better.
It's officially licensed by Sony and surrounds the directional pad with the face buttons from your PS4 controller, allowing you to more easily hit Circle to back out of an app menu or X to select. And it's Bluetooth, so you don't have to aim it right at the console.
HyperX
Cloud Stinger Gaming Headset
There’s nothing flashy about this wired HyperX headset, but it’s one of the very best gaming headsets you can own, and it won't break the bank. It’s far, far better than that puny earbud that came with your PS4, and it'll work with other devices you own. Audio and mic quality are excellent, and the flip-to-mute mic is extremely useful.
SteelSeries
Arctis 1 Wireless
The SteelSeries Arctis line are our absolute favorite gaming headsets right now, and the Arctis 1 Wireless is the most affordable, flexible way in the door. It's compatible with just about every system or device in some way and works wirelessly with the PS4. You can read our full review (8/10, WIRED Recommends), but we love the clean sound and comfortable fit.
If you unplug the microphone, they're also a good pair of wireless headphones with respectable 19-hour battery life.
Seagate
2-Terabyte Game Drive for PS4
A 500-GB PS4 tends to run out of space pretty quickly. You can even fill a 1-TB PS4 Pro if you download enough big games like GTA V. To save yourself the trouble of deleting games to make space, try this external 2-TB Seagate hard drive. Just plug it in and fill it up.
Sony
DualShock 4 Controller (Many Colors)
If you don’t own a second DualShock 4 controller and don't plan to buy a third-party gamepad, just pony up. There’s no getting around it. Sony’s controllers have poor battery life and need recharging often. Having a backup waiting in the wings is the best way to ensure your gaming session isn’t cut short.
Our advice: Buy three or four of them, call your friends over, and play a few hours of Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime. It’s crazy fun.
Evil Controllers
Totally Customized PS4 Controller
If you're the kind of person who buys a ton of DualShock controllers in different colors, why not make your own? Evil Controllers rebuilds a PS4 controller in your image. It lets you customize almost every aspect of the controller. You can modify the grip on the back, add tactical enhancements like paddles and hairpin triggers, and recolor the buttons. The more you spend, the crazier you can get.
Kootek
PS4 Cooling and Charging Stand
If you have space to display your PS4 Pro upright, this stand has it all—a cooling fan, six USB ports, and charging docks for two controllers. It's a nice little setup. There is also a version for the PS4 Slim and standard PS4.
Sony
PlayStation Gold Headset (2018)
It's not our top choice, but we've been using Sony's new 2018 PlayStation Gold Headset for a while now, and we really like its 7.1 virtual surround sound. Unlike third-party options, it integrates perfectly with the console's software, showing you onscreen status indicators. The controls take a bit of getting used to, and the microphone is a little less clear than headsets with a boom mic, but the overall fit is comfortable enough.
AmazonBasics
10-Foot Micro USB Charging Cord
If you don’t want to invest in a charging dock for your DualShock 4 controllers, consider an extra-long Micro USB cable. With this 10-foot cable, you’ll be able to charge up without interrupting your gaming session. Amazon Basics cables are not flashy in any way, but they get the job done reliably.
