Google Pixel 8 Pro, ultrawide camera with Night Sight. Google finally gave the ultrawide camera on the Pro model an upgrade, and I'd go so far as to say it's one of the best ultrawides on a phone right now. It can produce brighter and sharper results with minimal distortion.

iPhone 15 Pro Max, ultrawide camera with Night mode. The iPhone's ultrawide can be just as sharp (though not here in this specific example), but it doesn't deliver bright results in low light.

Google Pixel 8 Pro, main camera. I've found the Pixel does a better job with HDR—high-contrast scenes. Here you can see more details in the shadows, and the wood beams are a more color-accurate tone.

Google Pixel 8, 2X zoom with Night Sight. Due to the large image sensor, you can crop in at 2X and retain optical-like quality. The traffic light is pretty darn sharp here even in low light.

Google Pixel 8 Pro, selfie camera. The Pro model now supports autofocus in the selfie camera, so you can get sharper results than with the fixed focus front camera on the Pixel 8. However, it's *still* not quite as sharp as I'd have liked, but I might be nitpicking here.

Google Pixel 8 Pro, Portrait mode. Google's Portrait mode is excellent when it comes to pets (like this photo\!). However, it still struggles with human hair, which is not something I see as much on competing phones.

Google Pixel 8 Pro, 2X zoom. Compare this with the following iPhone photo. They both are very similar, but I actually prefer the colors on the iPhone's shot and it's a hair sharper (you have to really zoom in to tell).

iPhone 15 Pro Max, 2X zoom. The glow of the sunset is a little bit clearer in this shot, producing a nice warm tone.

Google Pixel 8 Pro, 5X optical zoom with Night Sight. In low light, I've found the iPhone's 5X zoom outperforms the Pixel in sharpness. The Pixel brightens up the image more, but it's not as sharp.

Google Pixel 8 Pro, Macro Focus mode. You can get even closer to subjects with the improved Macro Focus mode on the Pro model specifically. The Pixel 8 also now has Macro Focus, but you can't get as close as the Pro. Someone clean this cactus.
