SAN FRANCISCO – It's iPhone 5 launch day, and you know what that means: thousands of people lined up in front of Apple's retail stores, all waiting to be among the first to get their hands on Cupertino's newest creation. A few years ago, only diehard Apple fans camped out on the sidewalk to grab the company's latest offering first thing on launch day. Nowadays, the crowd is a whole lot more diverse. Don't believe us? Here's a look at some of the iPhone 5 buyers waiting in line in front of the downtown Apple Store here this morning.

__Name:__ Sonia Solorzano __What do you do?__ Work at Macy's. __What time did you get here?__ "I had my son camp out here last night since 1 a.m. I just got here." (She waited two and a half hours the morning the iPhone 4S came out last year.) __How have you been passing the time?__ "My son said he had to stand up to keep from falling asleep because he was worried about the line moving." __What are you most excited about with the iPhone 5?__ "I've been owning an iPhone since the very first one, and I just keep upgrading every time a new one comes up. I just love 'em."

"We kept turning the corner and were like, 'Oh my god, the line! Oh my god, the line," Clara said. __How have you been passing the time?__ "Talking to my friend Rebekah! And eating a donut that they passed out," Clara said. __What are you most excited about with the iPhone 5?__ "I'm just in line for work, actually! It'll be cool to see it slightly bigger, slightly smaller, and slightly faster, but I'm pretty happy with my 4. We're just getting a few for people at work," Clara said.

I brought a bean bag chair and talked with a couple of the guys over here, but I kinda slept four and a half hours under my blanket on my bean bag chair." __What are you most excited about with the iPhone 5?__ "To have an American phone! I just moved here from Canada two months ago, so I've been waiting it out for a couple of months. My Canadian phone bill this month was about a thousand dollars, so I've just been waiting and waiting for this phone to come out."

Maybe because it's smaller.... It will be helpful for me, because I don't know the city. It's my first iPhone, I'm excited."

I watched a movie, listened to music. Saw someone get arrested! One guy got a little drunk and out of control. But other than that, pretty much just sitting and having my butt hurt. It's interesting." __What are you most excited about with the iPhone 5?__ "Well I just broke my screen recently and I have an iPhone 4, which has been kind of glitchy lately. Getting a new phone and being one of the first people to have it is pretty cool, but the thing I'm most excited about is how it's going to be really, really fast. That'll be nice."

We got here around 4 a.m.," Check said. __How have you been passing the time?__ "Me and Tina have just been hanging out. From the drive, we're pretty sleepy, so just trying to stay awake." __What are you most excited about with the iPhone 5?__ "I'm really interested in seeing how the 3-D mapping works out, because I know there's been a lot of criticism for it. I haven't really experienced it yet because I wanted to see iOS 6 on the new hardware," Check said. "Primarily the exterior aesthetics, the new design," Tina said.

Been waiting about 16 hours now." __How have you been passing the time?__ "My iPad, really! Watching movies, reading books, meeting new friends, and talking to people." __What are you most excited about with the iPhone 5?__ "I feel like there's not just one thing I can pick because I'm upgrading from the 4.... Everyone's saying it's really light compared to the 4, and how slim it is. It's an overall haul for me, I'm kind of excited for all of it – a new phone and the status symbol of having the new iPhone."
