Gallery: Electric MotoCzysz E1pc Is Epic

This is the 2011 MotoCzysz E1pc electric motorcycle in its full glory. It is much more than an update on last year’s bike. It is a big step forward for both MotoCzysz and electric motorcycling. The latest version of Michael Czysz's electric superbike has less weight and more power than — as well as and dramatic packaging differences over — what was already one of the [most advanced motorcycles on the planet](http://stag-komodo.wired.com/autopia/2010/06/motoczysz-e1pc/). The frame moves outboard of the battery and is made of carbon fiber instead of aluminum. The suspension, meanwhile, moves inboard with both front and rear shocks mounted under the "tank." The bike is good for 200 horsepower and weighs less than 500 pounds, which is a typical weight for most e-bikes. Look for the E1pc to become the first electric motorcycle to break the 100-mph average lap at the Isle of Man TT when Michael Rutter competes in the TT Zero on Wednesday. __Above:__ Man on Bike on Man ------------------ Michael Rutter takes his first ride on the 2011 MotoCysz E1pc at Juby Airfield on the Isle of Man on Saturday. *Photo: [Jamie Robinson](http://www.motogeo.com/)*

Preliminary Specs ----------------- MotoCzysz hasn’t yet released full specs — we hope to get those Tuesday — but we know it has several improvements over the 2010 model, including: - Wheelbase shortened 50 mm for quicker steering. - Improved weight distribution. - Nearly 60 percent more power (nearly 200 horsepower). - Nearly 30 percent more torque. - More energy in the battery. The exact spec remains undisclosed, but last year's bike had 12.5 kilowatt-hours. - Weight reduced by more than 25 pounds. The bike weighs less than 500 pounds (exact specs undisclosed). - Improved aerodynamics. *Photo: [Amadeus Photography](http://amadeusphotography.com/)*

F-Word Fast ----------- Michael Czysz makes no bones about describing his electric motorcycle as "fucking fast." We don't doubt it. *Photo: Amadeus Photography*

Cockpit View ------------ The view from the cockpit. Rutter will ride the 2011 model, while last year's TT Zero winner, Mark Miller, will ride a heavily upgraded [2010 E1pc](http://hellforleathermagazine.com/tagged/2010-motoczysz-e1pc/). Bespoke Frame ------------- MotoCzysz used Dow Kokam cells in the pack. LED indicator lights communicate charge levels and the health of the individual cells. Check out how massive that bespoke carbon frame is. It has to both support the battery packs and connect the steering head to the swing-arm pivot. *Photo: Amadeus Photography*

Motor Mount ----------- The electric motor is mounted within the swing arm, in the spot where the rear shock typically is mounted. That prompted Czysz to mount the shock under the "tank. "There are two shocks. The one on the left controls the rear suspension; the one on the right controls the front. It controls the front fork through a linkage. *Photo: Jamie Robinson*

Rear Shock ---------- The 2011 E1PC uses a simple push-rod and bell-crank system to articulate the rear shock. It connects the swing arm to the shock mounted under the “tank.” The motorcycle's liquid-cooled motor is inside the massive aluminum swing arm. Note that the battery packs take up virtually the entire available width of the motorcycle. *Photo: Amadeus Photography*

Segway in One Way ----------------- The bike is sleeker than last year's model and not quite so futuristic. The new colors come with the Segway sponsorship. Of course, a motorcycle capable of lapping the Isle of Man at an average speed north of 100 mph is about as far removed as you can get from a Segway, but hey, they both have two wheels and they're both electric. *Photo: Amadeus Photography*

100 MPH Will Earn 100 x 100 Pounds ---------------------------------- The Motoczysz E1pc could be the first motorcycle to achieve an average of 100 mph lapping the 37-mile Mountain Course at the Isle of Man. Michael Rutter averaged 93.353 mph in his first practice lap on Monday and hit 138.4 mph through the Sulby speed trap. The first rider to average 100 mph around the course wins 10,000 British pounds \[$16,350\]. *Photo: Amadeus Photography*
