Motorola Edge+ 2022 Camera Samples

Motorola Edge\+ 2022, main camera. During the daytime, you can expect fairly sharp images out of the 50-megapixel primary shooter. This image exposes the whole scene really well.
Motorola Edge\+ 2022, Portrait mode. Motorola's blur is aided by the depth camera on the back of the phone. Look at the outline of my dog—there are no weird clipping issues with the bokeh effect. That said, the blur itself is a little odd. It doesn't look natural (some elements on the right are out of focus and others are in focus. Still, it's a sharp image (though my dog's eyes shouldn't be so dark).

Motorola Edge\+ 2022, Macro camera. Instead of a zoom lens like on most high-end smartphones, the Edge\+ has a Macro camera (it uses the ultrawide camera). That lets you go super close to subjects (*obviously your pet)* and take a close-up of their snoot. It requires a healthy amount of light if you want a good quality image.

There isn't much color here, and much of the background is just fuzzy. A phone at this price should deliver a stronger image. Compare this image to the following one.
Photograph: Julian Chokkattu06Google Pixel 6 Pro, main camera, Night Sight. The Pixel rightly brings out some of the colors in the scene, like the brown bricks of the buildings. Speaking of, zoom in on the building on the right and you can very easily make out the windows clearly; that's not the case on the Moto photo. The same rings true when you look closely at the nearest trees and benches. You can pick out so many more details.
Photograph: Julian Chokkattu07Motorola Edge\+ 2022, main camera. The sky is just too blown out in this image. The subject is detailed, but it looks a bit oversharpened, and the skin tone is a little reddish again. Compare this photo with the following one.

Photograph: Julian Chokkattu09Motorola Edge\+ 2022, selfie camera. Motorola's 60-megapixel selfie camera *still* doesn't support Night Vision, unlike most flagship smartphones. This is still an OK shot, but my skin is far too pale. Compare this with the following photo.

Photograph: Julian Chokkattu11Motorola Edge\+ 2022, Ultra-Res mode. By default, the Edge\+ takes 12-megapixel pixel-binned photos. That means the pixels are merging to absorb more light for a brighter end result. But you can force the camera to take 50-megapixel images with Ultra-Res mode. I was able to take a few shots of my dog and see some fine details in this mode, but weirdly, I also encountered an issue where some photos came out like this. Zoom in and you'd call this anything but “Ultra-Res”. Instead, it just looks like pointillism. 
Photograph: Julian Chokkattu12Motorola Edge\+ 2022, main camera. I couldn't *not* take a photo of this awesome motorbike. Compare this with the following Pixel photo. The Edge\+ took a pretty great shot, but it's a little over brightened and not *as* sharp.

Photograph: Julian Chokkattu14Motorola Edge\+ 2022, main camera, Night Vision. Here's an instance where the Moto phone struggles with high-contrast scenes. It couldn't handle the bright sunshine coming through the windows and did its best to brighten my dog. The end result is very, very fuzzy with weak details.

Photograph: Julian Chokkattu16Google Pixel 6 Pro, main camera, Night Sight. It's almost like wearing a prescriptions lens compared to the previous image. The Pixel image has significantly more details and looks more natural too.
Photograph: Julian Chokkattu17Motorola Edge\+ 2022, ultrawide camera, Night Vision. The 50-megapixel ultrawide on the Edge\+ is OK. Here, much of the image is blurry with fuzzy details. I also took a photo at the same time (not seen here) and it was significantly sharper, though had more grain than the Moto.

Photograph: Julian Chokkattu19Google Pixel 6 Pro, main camera, Night Sight. Since I tapped on the neon sign to expose for it, the image is darker. That said, it feels a whole lot more *authentic,* natural, and sharp. If I really wanted to, I could manually brighten the image and keep a lot of the sharpness and detail in the photo. It's just a different league.

Photograph: Julian Chokkattu23Motorola Edge\+ 2022, main camera, Night Vision. Just look at the spires of the church in the distance. In the Motorola photo, the tips seem to just disappear. That's how lackluster the image sharpness is. Compare this with the next Pixel photo.
