Motorola Edge 2022, main camera. No, the heavens have not descended here. The sky is just blown out in this photo. It's one of the flaws with the Edge's camera system—it doesn't perform well in high-contrast scenes like this. Compare this photo to the following one.

Google Pixel 6, main camera. This is pretty close to what the scene looked like in real life. The sun was a deep orange-red, the sky wasn't blindingly bright, and the buildings are well exposed.

Motorola Edge 2022, selfie camera. My skin tone isn't orange. I wish I didn't have to write that. There's also poor detail in my face and … it's just all around not great. Compare this to the following photo.

Google Pixel 6, selfie camera. It's a night and day difference. My face is separated from the coral-colored wall, and the colors are better preserved throughout the image. It's also just plain sharper, and there's good contrast. This phone's MSRP is the same as the Motorola Edge 2022.

Motorola Edge 2022, main camera. I like this shot, largely because the Oculus is well-exposed and sharp. But you can see the phone is struggling to expose the people sitting at the front. Everyone's mired in darkness, for the most part, and it's hard to make out many details.

Motorola Edge 2022, ultrawide camera. If you go to Motorola's Night Vision mode, it doesn't let you use the ultrawide camera (only the main camera). But when you snap a normal photo in low light with the ultrawide, the camera app says it turns on “auto night vision”. It doesn't feel it. This photo is very muddy and blotchy, and not quite what you should expect from a midrange handset in 2022.

Motorola Edge 2022, main camera. Here's a good example of how you can get a good shot out of this phone. It's well exposed, details are solid, and the colors look natural.

Motorola Edge 2022, main camera with Night Vision. It's not really night vision if the entire shot is blurry, right? I have found that Motorola's phone *does* ask you to stay still for a little longer than most other phones when snapping in low light.

Motorola Edge 2022, ultrawide camera. When there's plenty of light, the Edge's ultrawide can be handy to take in those sweeping scenes, though it's still nothing to write home about.
