Gallery: 7 Most Intriguing TV Shows Coming This Fall
01revolution
What will fill television's sci-fi black hole after *Fringe* ends next season? The rash of new shows announced by networks over the past week include a few prime-time contenders that will offer an alternative to the usual doctor/lawyer/cop and sniggling singles/smug family fodder. Which ones will nail their fantastical high-concept premises when they air this fall? Hard to say at this point, but here's our short list of the most intriguing shows set to debut during the 2012-2013 TV season, with teaser videos to give you a taste. __Above:__ Revolution (NBC) ---------------- J.J. Abrams' [Revolution](http://www.nbc.com/revolution/) boasts a spectacular-looking teaser and a post-apocalyptic premise that could spell success in the fantastical realm where *Terra Nova* (cancelled by Fox ), *Alcatraz* (canceled by Fox) and tepid *Falling Skies* (back for a second season on TNT) have faltered. The hook: 15 years after a total power blackout, humans make their way through the world without any of the conveniences modern civilians take for granted. Creator Eric Kripke worked on the CW's low-impact *Supernatural* drama, but it gets better: *Iron Man'*s Jon Favreau directs the pilot. Executive producer Abrams' recent shows *Undercovers* and *Alcatraz* flopped, but the man who co-created *Lost*, working with *Fringe* producer Bryan Burk, might just turn a marathon power outage into compelling fare. Cast includes Andrea Roth (*Rescue Me*), Billy Burke (*Twilight*) and Giancarlo Esposito (*Breaking Bad*).
02the-neighbors
The Neighbors (ABC) -------------------- [The Neighbors](http://beta.abc.go.com/shows/the-neighbors) follows middle-class parents (Jami Gertz and Lenny Venito) as they move with their three kids into a New Jersey suburb filled with people named after famous athletes. Hidden Hills residents Reggie Jackson (Tim Jo), Jackie Joyner-Kersee (Toks Olagundoye), Dick Butkis (Ian Patrick) and Larry Bird (Simon Templeman) speak with British accents but don't come from England – they're from another planet. The Neighbors' trailer showcases sharp acting, but will writer-producer Dan Fogelman (*Cars;* *Crazy, Stupid, Love*) find enough surprises to sustain dozens of episodes? __Doppelganger alert:__ Executive producer Conan O'Brien's in-development TBS comedy *[Zone Lord](http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/tbs-conan-obrien-norm-macdonald-324982)* looks for yuks when a trio of ordinary apartment dwellers discover that an extraterrestrial has moved into their building.
03666-park-avenue
666 Park Avenue (ABC) ---------------------- *Lost'*s Terry O'Quinn stars in *[666 Park Avenue](http://beta.abc.go.com/shows/666-park-avenue)* as the owner of a deluxe apartment building where residents get the chance to fulfill their deepest wishes for a price. It may sound hokey, but *666* could rise above Faustian clichés, given the involvement of David Wilcox (*Fringe*) as a writer-producer. Co-stars include Rachael Taylor (*Charlie's Angels*) and Helena Mattsson (*Nikita*).
04last-resort
Last Resort (ABC) ------------------ Michael Bay's post-apocalyptic seafaring drama *The Last Ship* did not make the cut, but *[Last Resort](http://beta.abc.go.com/shows/last-resort)* did. The show follows a U.S. submarine, whose commanders are ordered to nuke Pakistan but refuse their orders. Chaos ensues as the sailors declare themselves an independent nation-state on a tiny Pacific Ocean island. Military-driven action pieces in the *Battlefield* vein often sag in the character and dialog departments, and while the trailer bears the earmarks of a blustery melodrama, *Last Resort* deserves a look on the strength of creator Shawn Ryan, whose track record includes gritty drama *The Shield* and offbeat but little-seen *Terriers*. Cast includes Andre Braugher, Scott Speedman and Daisy Betts, whom we're guessing is a really good swimmer: She earlier starred in *Sea Patrol*.
05zero-hour
Zero Hour ( ABC) ---------------- "Logic is the compass" serves as the motto for conspiracy debunker played by Anthony Edwards (*ER*) who publishes *Modern Skeptic* magazine. But reason goes out the window when his wife gets kidnapped by Nazis. His mission: Save his wife by tracking down 12 ancient clocks embedded with secret information before the bad guys can find them. Writer-producer Paul T. Scheuring showed a knack for crafting big story arcs loaded with cliffhangers in Fox thriller *Prison Break*. If *[Zero Hour](http://beta.abc.go.com/shows/zero-hour/)* shows enough wit and grit to offset the outlandish *Da Vinci Code* vibe seen in the trailer, it could evolve into a grandly entertaining mythology.
06elementary
Elementary (CBS) ---------------- Arthur Conan Doyle fans who can't wait for Robert Downey Jr.'s next Sherlock Holmes movie can look forward to *[Elementary](http://www.cbs.com/shows/elementary/)*. Like current PBS series *[Sherlock](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sherlock_(TV_series))*, the new drama from Rob Doherty (*Medium*) creates a contemporary setting for fiction's most famous sleuth. The suitably high-strung Jonny Lee Miller stars as recovering addict Holmes, who hooks up in Brooklyn with sober companion Joan Watson (Lucy Liu). Excerpts from the taut pilot episode, directed by suspense master [Michael Cuesta](http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0191147/) (*Homeland*), suggest high-caliber performances on all fronts.
07arrow
Arrow (The CW) -------------- *[Arrow](http://facebook.com/cwarrow)* taps into the weirdest action trend of the year: archery. Like *The Hunger Games'* sharp-shooting heroine and *The Avengers'* Hawkeye, DC Comics' superhero Green Arrow demonstrates incredibly good aim in the teaser clip. How many ways will his bow and arrow foil the bad guy? The answers come from show creator Greg Berlanti, who wrote the script for last year's clunky *Green Lantern* movie. Also on board is Marc Guggenheim, who helped steer the physics-gone-mad *FlashForward* show a couple years back. Stephen Amell stars as the crime-fighting archer Oliver Queen.
