Nokia 5.3 Camera Samples

Nokia 5.3, main camera. Look at this photo on a larger screen and it's easy to see how little of it is sharp. I do like the colors though.

Nokia 5.3, main camera. I like this shot. It's not the most detailed, but things aren't as blotchy as the prior image, and the sky in the distance isn't blown out nor the foreground shrouded in darkness.

Nokia 5.3, Portrait mode. Compare this photo with the following one. This is a totally serviceable portrait shot. The blur effect is decent, there's good-enough detail, and the colors are OK.

Google Pixel 4A, Portrait mode. But then comes the Pixel. The difference in detail is night and day, it's astounding. You can actually see texture on the skin, on the table, and on the sweater. The colors look a lot more realistic, and you still get an excellent blur effect around the subject. This is what you get by paying $150 more.

Photograph: Julian Chokkattu05Nokia 5.3, Portrait mode. The nice thing is that portrait mode works on just about anything or anyone, including dogs\! The effect does a solid job here without clipping fur, and detail is solid.
Photograph: Julian Chokkattu06Nokia 5.3, Night mode. Compare this photo with the following one. You won't get much use out of the camera at night. Despite the dedicated Night mode, images are still largely dim and blurry.
Photograph: Julian Chokkattu07Google Pixel 4A, Night Sight. Pay up an extra $150 and it's almost like you've leaped a decade forward. The Pixel 4A's Night Sight mode captures a spectacular amount of detail and color.
Photograph: Julian Chokkattu08Nokia 5.3, ultrawide camera. The ultrawide is nothing to write home about. It's helpful when you have lots of light, and even on cloudy days, just don't expect pristine images.
Photograph: Julian Chokkattu09Nokia 5.3, main camera. You can get some great shots out of the Nokia, usually only during the day. The colors here are nice, and the image is relatively sharp. A part of the sky, where the sun is behind the clouds, is blown out but it doesn't ruin the picture.
Photograph: Julian Chokkattu10Nokia 5.3, Night mode. If you stay still enough (and there's a decent amount of ambient light), Night mode can produce usable results. This photo lacks color, is very grainy, and isn't all that detailed, but it's not bad for a $200 phone.
Photograph: Julian Chokkattu11Nokia 5.3, Night mode. If your dog stays still enough (a miracle), you can even get a relatively well-detailed shot like this.
Photograph: Julian Chokkattu12Nokia 5.3, Night mode. It's not magical like Google's Night Sight, but HMD's Night mode can help when it's just past dusk. Any darker and it loses its value.
Photograph: Julian Chokkattu13Nokia 5.3, selfie camera. The front camera is fine. As you can see, the sky is blown out here, rendering most of the background useless. But the colors are OK and detail is solid.
