Nothing Phone 2 Camera Samples
Featured in this article

Nothing Phone (2), Portrait mode. Nothing has improved the cameras on its new phone, but the results can be heavy-handed as if someone cranked all the values in a photo editor to the max. There's perhaps too much contrast here, the lighting looks artificial, and the colors are oversaturated. At least it's sharp and still a photo I'd be fine sharing.

Google Pixel 7A, Portrait mode. The Pixel goes for a much more natural approach. Skin tone looks accurate. The colors are not overblown. It's still sharp, and the lighting is great.

Nothing Phone (2), main camera. Again, Nothing likes to up the contrast and colors. This is a good photo but look at the following Pixel image.

Google Pixel 7A, main camera. The Pixel strikes a nice balance. The shadows aren't too dark, the brights aren't too bright, and the colors look normal. There's a nice warmth to the image.

Photograph: Julian Chokkattu05Nothing Phone (2), main camera. This is another one of those photos that look great on its own, but the trees are actually severely brightened compared to the scene in real life. The leaves were not that bright.
Photograph: Julian Chokkattu06Google Pixel 7A, main camera. This photo better captures the shadows and is a more realistic view of the scene.
Photograph: Julian Chokkattu07Nothing Phone (2), main camera. Then there are some inconsistencies in Nothing's camera system. With the main camera, this shot looks pretty great. It's plenty sharp with nice colors.
Photograph: Julian Chokkattu08Nothing Phone (2), Portrait Mode. Turn on portrait mode, however, and everything looks … bad. It might just be that the scene needed more light but the phone didn't indicate this to me. Instead, my dog's face is blotchy, and there's a sudden drop in detail. Even my pup isn't happy.
Photograph: Julian Chokkattu09Nothing Phone (2), main camera. One big issue I noticed is chromatic aberration, which is color distortion when there are bright backgrounds. You can see this easily here at the edges of the tree's leaves. There's so much purple\! It looks bad. Most phones are able to correct this.
Photograph: Julian Chokkattu10Google Pixel 7A, main camera. It's better exposed, has better colors, and has little to no chromatic aberration. This phone is also $100 cheaper.
Photograph: Julian Chokkattu11Nothing Phone (2), main camera with Night mode. Night time or low-light photos are pretty solid all-around. The Pixel 7A picks up more detail and can brighten images up a bit better, but the Nothing Phone (2) won't disappoint.
Photograph: Julian Chokkattu12Nothing Phone (2), selfie camera. The selfie camera, while sharp, over-brightens the image, and struggles with HDR.
Photograph: Julian Chokkattu13Google Pixel 7A, selfie camera. It might not be as sharp a photo, but I'd certainly share this photo over the Nothing photo.
Photograph: Julian Chokkattu14Nothing Phone (2), Portrait mode. Nothing went a little too strong with the blur effect here. It looks unnaturally strong at this distance, and the person looks more like a cutout placed into the scene. Thankfully, it's still a nice shot and there are no problems with the portrait effect.
Photograph: Julian Chokkattu15Google Pixel 7A, Portrait mode. Google went the opposite way and maybe lightened its touch a little too much, but this is still a nice photo. I'd still say this one looks a whole lot more natural.
Photograph: Julian Chokkattu16Nothing Phone (2), main camera with Glyph Light. You can use the LEDs on the back of the phone as a fill light. A handy way to expose a subject that's nearby if it's really dark. This is a shot with the Glyph light turned on. I still wish you could tweak the color temperature of the light. It's a little too blue.
Photograph: Julian Chokkattu17Nothing Phone (2), main camera with flash. Here's what that photo looks like with the standard camera flash.
Photograph: Julian Chokkattu18Nothing Phone (2), main camera. And here's what it looks like without anything.
Photograph: Julian Chokkattu19Nothing Phone (2), main camera with Night mode. Compare this with the following Pixel 7A photo. The fireworks aren't blown out but the tree above is too dark and blotchy. There's also some detail lost in the buildings and tree at the bottom.
Photograph: Julian Chokkattu20Google Pixel 7A, main camera with Night Sight. There are stronger details overall here.
Photograph: Julian Chokkattu21Nothing Phone (2), ultrawide. The ultrawide is quite capable on this phone, though there's a decent amount of distortion toward the edges and that “fish-eye” effect.
