At first glance, Patricia Urquiola's redesign looks nothing like the original Bourgie Lamp. But take a closer look at the individual parts. See how the branches of the chandelier resemble the base of the original Bourgie? Pretty clever.

Front heated the original Bourgie Lamp base to alter its shape. The white plastic began melting, giving the base a casual lean that makes It looks like it's just swaying your way to give you a little extra light as you read.

Interior designers Kelly Wearstler explains: "We started with the basic silhouette of the lamp and morphed it by collaging different cuts, shapes and folds of the original Bourgie lamp. Once we established a new silhouette that felt fresh we incorporated some of our core brand identity mixing stones, metal and cord. "

Pharrell Williams inserted an arm into the Bourgie's base. The hand holds up the light, and represents, according to Williams, "the will of mankind in the daily plight of escaping the "shade" and the challenges of attempting to get closer to enlightenment."

Brooklyn design collective Snarkitecture reimagined the lamp as no lamp at all. The designers wanted to showcase the moment when the Bourgie come out of storage, so they designed the lamp as a fiberglass sheet with no base to be found.
