Sony Xperia 1 IV Camera Samples
- Photograph: Adam Speight01Sony Xperia 1 IV, main camera. Scenes with lots of detail and good, natural lighting are where the Sony does its best work. Plenty of detail and accurate color here.
Photograph: Adam Speight02Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, main camera. When offered a lot of detail, the S22 Ultra has erred on the side of oversharpening, falling short of the more natural Xperia 1 IV image.
- Photograph: Adam Speight03Sony Xperia 1 IV, ultra-wide camera. The middle third of this image offers good detail are vivid color but there's a speedy drop off in resolution and focus in the outer thirds.
Photograph: Adam Speight04Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, ultra-wide camera. This has a more consistent look, with little distortion towards the edges of the image and largely uniform color.

- Photograph: Adam Speight07Sony Xperia 1 IV, 2x Zoom. The zoom capabilities of this phone come down to a matter of taste. Again, the Xperia performs well in terms of color accuracy and detail. In this instance though, it doesn't provide enhancements that flagship phone users made be accustomed to, to make the image more eye-catching.

- Photograph: Adam Speight09Sony Xperia 1 IV, main camera (for Night Mode comparison). Another strong example of the Xperia performing well when faced with a range of colors and a lot of detail. Accuracy across the board.
- Photograph: Adam Speight10Sony Xperia 1 IV, Night Mode. Sony's choice to focus on accuracy over software enhancement works against it here, with little done to make the detail in this darker photo more visible.
Photograph: Adam Speight11Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, main camera (for Night Mode comparison). The S22 Ultra gives a lot of detail and some eye-catching color in this image. The warm colors do suffer, with less accuracy than the Xperia 1 IV.
Photograph: Adam Speight12Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, Night Mode. A great nighttime image. The Samsung brings up the light without sacrificing accuracy and the phone's typical sharpening doesn't go overboard.
- Photograph: Adam Speight13Sony Xperia 1 IV, Portrait Mode. The Xperia fails dramatically with this challenging portrait image, failing to accurately detect the subject.
Photograph: Adam Speight14Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, Portrait Mode. Samsung shows its software class with this photo, accurately selecting this awkward subject and applying a suitable, and not too harsh, bokeh affect to the background.
