[Narrator] Silicon Valley may have swiped
some of Detroit's leadership in the car industry
but Motown is far from cooked,
for proof, here are the hottest cars to come out
of this year's North American International Auto Show.
Ford took the stage at its home town event
to show off the next iteration of the pick-up that has been
the country's best-selling vehicle for 35 years.
This new truck is continuing to overhaul its image
as a gas-guzzler, the latest model has surprisingly decent
fuel efficiency with a ten-speed automatic transmission
and start-stop technology that puts
an end to idling at red lights.
Throw in high-tech features like pedestrian detection,
lane keeping assist and a 4G LTE wifi hotspot
and America's favorite truck
is looking pretty sophisticated.
Of course, Americans' love for big goes beyond
the pick-up, for someone more interested in hauling kids
than piles of bricks or whatever,
Audi rolled out the Q8 Concept
previewing its next luxury SUV.
The plug-in hybrid combines an 18 kilowatt hour battery
with a three liter engine, all told good for 440 horsepower.
Naturally it's packed with touchscreens
and will also show off the next generation
of Audi's virtual cockpit system.
Nearly 30 years after bringing a heap of luxury
to the Toyota family, Lexus is revamping
its flagship, the LS sedan.
The automaker says the car is built on omotenashi,
the concept of Japanese hospitality.
Here that means new chassis control technology
along with seats that adjust in 28 different directions
and offer shiatsu massages,
the backseat even gets an ottoman.
Crossovers and SUVs may get most of the love these days
but the humble minivan is making a steady comeback.
Honda's moving the trend along
with a revamped take on the Odyssey,
stuffed with all the latest family-friendly tech.
This caravan offers a rear-seat entertainment system
that supports streaming video to keep the kiddies calm
and even makes it easier than ever
to get all the way back to the third row.
Alright, so Kia and cool aren't usually synonymous
but the Korean automaker's making a bid to change that
with the Stinger, the sporty sedan with room for five
is meant to be a grand touring car,
built for an engaging but also comfortable ride
and if Kia pulls it off, you won't just enjoy
the long haul to grandma's house,
you'll look relatively cool doing it.
